10 Nutrition Myths That Are Keeping You Unhealthy

Nutrition is full of conflicting advice. One day a food is considered healthy, and the next it's labeled harmful. In this day and age where everything creates more and more confusion, let me help you with a few myths commonly misunderstood as facts.

1. Myth: Dropping rice is the first step towards losing weight!

Reality: Absolutely not! Rice was never the enemy. Rice is a carbohydrate, and carbs are absolutely necessary for the energy our body needs. What matters is portion, and its complexity. More complex the carbs, better it is for the body. As far as rice is concerned, a mixed plate is better than rice being the main character on your plate.

2. Myth: You MUST eat every 2–3 hours

Reality: There is no magic eating frequency. Some people thrive on three balanced meals, while others prefer smaller, frequent meals. What matters most is meeting your nutritional needs consistently. It also depends on your activity levels and lifestyle in general.

3. Myth: Healthy food means eating salads all day

Reality: Healthy eating isn't about restriction. A balanced plate can include dal, roti, rice, vegetables, curd, fruits, nuts, eggs, fish, or chicken. Vegetables have a role to play, however, like rice, they cannot be the only characters in the drama of planning your meals.

4. Myth: Skipping meals helps you lose weight

Reality: Quite the opposite. Skipping meals often increases hunger later, making overeating more and more likely. Regular, balanced meals help maintain energy levels and support healthier food choices.

5. Myth: Detox drinks cleanse your body

Reality: Your liver and kidneys already detoxify your body. No juice, tea, or detox drink can replace these organs.

6. Myth: Fruit is too high in sugar

Reality: Whole fruits contain natural sugars along with fibre, vitamins, antioxidants, and water. For most healthy individuals, fruits support — not harm — overall health. However, every single thing in this world will do its wonders in moderation.

7. Myth: Supplements can replace a healthy diet

Reality: Supplements fill nutritional gaps. They are called supplements for a reason. They don't replace nutritious food. Food first, supplements only if and when needed.

8. Myth: Eating after 8 PM causes weight gain

Reality: Weight gain depends on total calorie intake and lifestyle, not the clock. Circadian rhythm does play its role, but if you're eating before 8pm and bingeing on burgers every day — my friend, that's not working for you!

9. Myth: More protein is always better

Reality: Protein is important, but more isn't always beneficial. Extremely high protein intake won't automatically build more muscle or accelerate weight loss without appropriate training and balanced nutrition. Balance is the key!

10. Myth: A good diet means never eating your favourite foods

Reality: Healthy eating isn't about perfection. Completely restricting favourite foods often leads to cravings and binge eating. Build a lifestyle where nutritious foods are the foundation and favourite foods fit in occasionally.

Nutrition shouldn't feel confusing or restrictive. The goal isn't to follow the latest trend — it's to develop habits that you can maintain for life.

At FitWithPoorva, the focus is on helping you understand why you make food choices, so you can become confident and independent — not dependent on another diet.
